I’m so pleased to be working with John Lewis today and have them to thank for getting me organised, decor wise, before the 1st December; it’s a wee festive miracle my friends. Christmas has officially landed in our household in the shape of a 7ft Christmas tree and I couldn’t be happier. My breakfast tea and toast on the sofa felt a little more magical this morning with our Mitsuko Christmas Tree for company.
What’s Mitsuko? John Lewis have created seven Christmas themes to help when decorating your home this year including the contemporary and understated Mitsuko trend, that draws on inspiration from the ancient art of shadow puppetry exploring the effect of light and shade; mixing soft colours, reflective metallics and beautiful details. The theme includes a focus on gold, copper, rose gold and silver, with the addition of teal and red to add hints of colour.
Our lounge already has teal and copper details in its furniture and accessories so I knew the theme would work well. But I also wanted to make sure I could still use some of our own decorations that we’ve collected over the years too, and Mitsuko felt like the perfect versatile theme for that.
But first we needed the tree! I chose the 7ft Serbian Blue spruce featuring 1,933 thick mixed-texture branches. It’s our very first faux tree and I am so impressed with it. Faux trees have come a long way since the 80s, for sure! After assembly, and placing it in the corner between our teal and grey sofas, I spent a good hour fluffing out the branches (that’s a thing, right?) and began with the decoration.
I mixed our own fairy lights with the John Lewis pure white LED Christmas lights with copper wire to add extra sparkle, and began decorating with the statement decorations including the Copper White Prism Tree, Honeycomb Paper Bauble and Copper Wheel Tree. I then added a selection of 30 mixed copper/silver baubles for depth, light and texture. Finally, I added some of our own decorations for a personal finish. I love that it looks just as lovely with or without the lights on! Be still my beating heart.
Other details include the John Lewis copper galvanised tree skirt (to tidy up the whole look), mini tinsel (am I the only one who loves the smell of tinsel?!) and of course the tree topper, our very own festive bird. What do you think? Like the look? You can shop the Mitsuko theme here, and if you need a little help, here’s a handy video on how to decorate your tree too.
