Wardrobe Details: Thoughts on Denim

UK Fashion and lifestyle blog

I’m bored with my cold now and tired of talking about it too, so let’s look at pretty autumnal scenes and the first of my new season outfits, shall we? Share the positive and all that jazz (whilst drinking ANOTHER Lemsip and shivering in a warm house). Woe is me.

We stuck to our usual walking route this weekend as we were both feeling pretty rubbish and wanted to be close to home for blankets, hot drinks and naps. But of course Polly wanted to explore so I thought I’d cheer up Sunday a tad by bringing a flask of hot chocolate out with us.

I’m wearing my new favourite skirt, a polo neck jumper, tights, loafers and my trusty Matt and Nat bag which is perfect for walks like these to store all those extra layers…and to pack them up again when you start burning up. There I go again…

Anyhoo, it’s not a groundbreaking outfit at all but sometimes it’s the simplest of outfit combinations that you miss when looking through your wardrobe don’t you think? Taking pics for the blog and documenting them is a great way for me to choose what to wear when my brain has no clue, which happens most days.

Skirt via ASOS| Polo Neck (old) via M&S| Loafers (old) via Clarks | Scarlett of Soho Glasses via Glasses Direct|  Bag via Matt & Nat

2016 has opened my eyes to a world of denim (that sounds ridiculous when read out loud – ha) and I now own a denim dress, shirt (both charity shop bargains) and this mini skirt from ASOS. I just think the material is classic and therefore earns a place in any wardrobe. The skirt is a versatile purchase which will get lots of wear in the warmer months too but for now it looks best teamed with tights, brogues, loafers or ballet pumps. Plus, it has pockets. I know, right? Sold!

I read an article last month saying that polo necks/turtlenecks/roll-necks were a no-no (who decides these things?!) and I thought what complete and utter tosh. It’s a classic and I’ll be wearing mine all season tucked into culottes, jeans and my trusty pinafore dress (which I only dare to wear indoors at the mo).

I’d usually don my walking boots or wellies whilst walking the dog but I fancied wearing something nice on my feet after a week indoors being makeup-free dressed in leggings and jumpers, with a box of tissues for company. These are from Clarks (last season) and are great for dry autumnal days like these, at work or play.

Love this post 🙂 My dream autumn staples are: brown satchel (with boots to match, ideally) , cream chunky-knit jumper, soft cotton checked shirt, jeans, corduroy skirt with an array of autumnal-coloured tights. And a ridiculous-looking bobble hat, of course.

Ha, was reading all the way through this thinking “I’m obviously doing dog walking wrong, in my decorating leggings and hiking boots and an ugly but snug old coat” – was quite relieved to hear you don’t always walk Polly looking this glam! 🙂 Love the outfit and the views. Yorkshire is so spectacular! x

I love that it’s autumn because I can wear my ‘just a little bit to short to wear without tights at my age’ denim skirt with tights now it’s colder- i love pairing it with light jumpers or tops and giant cardigans. And boots. Boots and skirts are my favourite!

My dog walking outfits however are very different – scruffy jeans for when the muddy paws jump up at me, wellies or walking boots and coats with pockets for treats and poo bags – it’s such a glamorous world 😉

Ha! Yes, my usual dog walking outfits are the same. I have treats and Polly bags in every jacket I own! I just needed cheering up so risked the mud this time ???? x

denim is my wardrobe staple, I love that it is so versatile, I have a pinafore dress (which I stupidly referred to as a dungadress for ages, until someone pointed out it was a pinafore!) I’ve worn it through it summer with vests underneath and now in autumn it goes with roll necks (which are aces and super flattering, always!).
Your walk looks great, hope you are feeling better. I’ve just discovered your blog and love the 5 positive things posts.

Thanks so much! I’m gonna try go out of the house in my pinafore and roll neck (I’ve been scared to wear it for some silly reason!).
