Lately: Thank You, Running and Feeling Better

UK Lifestyle and fashion blog

Hello campers, how are we all? The OH was hit with the lurgy last week which has now worked its annoying way to me, meaning all the things I have planned on my to do list this week are taking twice as long which is NO fun. I’ve been feeling a tad ‘blah’ on and off for a while so I really could do without a cold but I’m drinking all the honey and lemon I can muster and eating fruit toast for comfort, so it ain’t all that bad.

I don’t know why but every time I get a cold all I want to do is eat comfort food. I made the tastiest chicken pie last night that I could eat every night if I wasn’t bothered about my waistline (there’s double cream in it) and at the beginning of the week we had fish fingers, beans and chips…the ultimate in comfort food. I best start eating properly again soon. Ahem.

Autumn| Well, aren’t you lovely? It is my favourite season and I’ve loved walking Polly in the crisp air and falling autumnal leaves, then coming home to a hot chocolate, draping a blanket over my office chair and hiding from the wind. Plus, SOUP SEASON, you guys. I really do excited about the simplest of things. I want to do a autumn photo walk when my spirits are back. You know the kind; acorns, wellies, prancing in the leaves and all that jazz…

Memory Walk| A big thank you to everyone who sponsored us for the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk. I think we’ve raised around £500 in total and we’re so pleased. Some of you were listed as anonymous on the form so I’m sorry I can’t personally say thank you, but needless to say every single penny raised will make a difference. The walk was great but it gave me the urge to do something a bit more challenging so I’ve started running…more on that below.

Running| I can’t believe I started running again. I wasn’t planning to. It just kind of happened. So I bought an armband for my iPod and I just went running. I felt that I needed something extra to help improve my Roller Derby (I’m so close to passing!) but I’m aware how good it is for my mental health too. Exercise makes me feel good. It’s that simple. Don’t get me wrong, the before and during part is a pain in the neck but post-run I feel AMAZING and that outweighs all the bad.

Walking Polly is great but going for a run with only my iPod for company is something completely different. I’m stronger than I thought (I have Roller Derby and walking Polly to thank for that) so I’m going to try a few Park Runs then perhaps do a 10k next year, followed by roller skating a marathon. WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO ME? I’m just gonna roll with it whilst I still have the enthusiasm…and continue to reward myself with chocolate.

Wood Store| We built a wood store at the weekend! Well, not from scratch, we had instructions and stuff but…we built a wood store! We’re painting it black to match our window boxes and gate and it will hopefully store a few other garden bits but I’m so pleased with it. Just in time for winter too. More on the blog next week!

So besides work, feeling crap, running and getting excited about wood, that’s all that’s been happening lately.

What have you been up to?
