At Home: Summer Bedroom Update
When you can’t depend on the British weather to give you the summer feeling you have to make the best of what you’ve got. Whipping up a summer recipe or singing Jazzy Jeff’s Summertime might do the trick, but if you’d like something a bit more permanent then read on for some easy and affordable seasonal updates you can do to your home.
1| Cheer up hard floors with lighter rugs. Look for different textures, patterns and colours that will brighten and add comfort to your bedroom space.
2| Add plants, plants and more plants. Plants make a space look more lived in and homely (move over dirty washing piles). They’re also my favourite (and affordable) way to decorate a room in an instant. Think tall and small – go big!

3| Bring the outdoors in and pick some wildflowers for a seasonal update to your bedside table. Or style collected shells and stones from your last holiday to a make a display on your dressing table.
4| Update your bedding to something colourful and vibrant. Yellow is a great, if obvious, choice for bringing home that summer feeling home. Look out for reversible bedding so you get 2 looks for the price of 1!

5| Update your prints and photographs with new picture frames. We painted a selection of picture frames with white paint this weekend – our old paintings have now come to life again!
6| Add a summery scent into your space using a diffuser. Turn over the reeds every week or drop some oil directly onto a radiator to quickly fragrance the room.

7| Clean the windows and mirror so you’re getting as much light as possible into the room.
8| Add natural accessories including rattan, wicker and bamboo.
9 | Open the windows. Keep a soft fringed throw to hand if it gets a bit cold!

10| Plan summer adventures. Rooms have memories so make sure your bedroom is a happy stress free space where you can feel inspired.
11| Display photographs of the great outdoors; your favourite beach perhaps?
12| Paint the walls or floors. OK, this takes a little more time but will instantly refresh a room. We’re painting our wooden stairs, leading up to the bedroom next week. Wish us luck!
Who’s needs a proper summer, ey?
P.S Erm, ignore that. I’d like one, pretty please.
