At Home: Exposed Brick Walls

Exposed Brick

One of the things that stood out when we viewed our home was the exposed brick in the kitchen. I absolutely love it. However, although the kitchen is modern and fits within the open plan living decor, it wasn’t looked after very well by the previous owners and includes a few noticeable design flaws here and there (only two plug sockets for our appliances!).

As it’s a small kitchen, I’m hoping that we can make it really special in years to come, without it costing a small fortune. I’d love to update our laminate flooring as our current floor was fitted badly (gaps for Polly to find!). There’s a great selection of styles available nowadays including contemporary tile and slate effect flooring, a great alternative if you are bored of the wood effect look. If you have a pet (I still can’t believe we are dog owners now!) they’re great for keeping clean; plus laminate flooring is affordable and really easy to install, if you’re wanting to save on labour costs.

I’d like different kitchen cupboards that are more practical space wise giving us lots of storage; it’s just a matter of finding a new scheme and style that complements the exposed brick. That’s where Pinterest comes in!

Look to the walls! Exposed brick looks great when you add art, shelves and kitchen accessories to it. As we’re lacking on space I think we need to utilise the walls more.

Bored with your brick and want something completely new? Why not paint them? I love the white washed bricks above. They would look great in a large open space with good light.

Floors again! Tiles and bricks work really well together in achieving an industrial look, especially when teamed with stainless steel.

The power of lighting, huh? These industrial-style fairy lights look great against the brick backdrop and finish off this wall perfectly. Now I want to strip the walls back to brick in our bedroom too!

Do you have a kitchen makeover planned?
