Travel: Staycations in the UK

Devon cream tea

I have really fond memories of holidaying in Devon. Firstly with my family, exploring the towns of Barnstaple and Westward Ho! and then at the great surfing hotspot of Woolacombe with friends. So when Parkdean offered to send me a cream tea hamper of my choice (Devon or Cornwall) I  couldn’t wait to sample it and recall happy holiday memories. A friendly wren kept on popping into our cream tea garden party to say hello too.

All of my childhood holidays were spent in the UK in either Northumberland, Scotland, Cornwall or Devon. It wasn’t until my 16th birthday till I went abroad with my Nanna to Paris (long live coach trips!). I’ve grown up to love staycations, and not just because there a little cheaper than going abroad but they give you a better understanding of this country we live in; it’s an amazing place.

As for Devon? Travelling from Yorkshire to Devon in our burgundy Princess car called Gladys was a big part of the holiday experience too (long road trips are the best). It’s also where I learnt to bodyboard, it’s where I experienced my first proper summer (scorching hot!) and of course, my first Devon cream tea. Always cream first my friends, sorry Cornwall!
