At Home: Nature Indoors

The more I live in our new home the more I want it to be a very simple and calm space, especially before Christmas descends and I fill it with ALL THE DECORATIONS.

There are so many ways to achieve a simple and calm look in a home (great storage for one) but one of my favourite tips is to decorate it with house plants, and lots of them. They’re affordable, come in all shapes and sizes and never feel like they clutter a room. Instead they emphasise corners, walls and windowsills and create character and charm.

Photo above: I love these plants against a backdrop of sheer white floaty curtains. A great way to soften a room and a lovely look for a bedroom.

A simple table, stool or plant stand can create a unique display.

Mix-matching plant pots to make a decorative shelf | Large plants on dressing tables and sideboards creates an elegant display | Cacti are perfect for filling small spaces and can last a very long time.

Plants don’t only live on windowsills. Look at your ceilings and walls too | Group plants together to create a plant corner in a room.

Monochrome interiors contrast well with plants to create a modern but homely feel.

What are your favourite type of house plants?

    Hi

I love your blog and I’m trying to set my own up – have been for a while. You answered a question for me before re. blogging and I wondered if you could spare a moment for another one? I notices your post on house plants had images taken from pinterest and you also sometimes uses film stills – the Northern South film. Are bloggers allowed to do this? I read somewhere that a blogger got sued and had to pay out for using a picture that appeared to be freely available. I’d appreciate any advice as I don’t want to start a blog and end up in hot water. Also, you should write a how to blog guide with lots of photos of Hebden Bridge – I would buy it! many thanks

Hi Helen! When featuring images from Pinterest, I always link to where I got the image from, in this case the board that I created. As for film images – I read that as long as you are promoting the film then it falls under ‘fair use’. However, there are arguments for and against this. In other words, credit your sources or link to them.

Good luck with your blog, send me the link once live! : )
