Origami Garland DIY Tutorial
I thought I’d publish the tutorial for my Origami Garlands on here as I think Company Magazine are up to their eyes publishing all the Christmas craft/recipe DIY’s! Hope you find it helpful, enjoy!
1.You will need: Scissors, magazines, pencil, needle and thread.
2. Draw out a pentagon shape from your magazine and cut out. You can get templates on the internet very easily of all shapes and sizes. At the widest point mine is 7 inches wide.
3. Let the creasing commence! Fold the pentagon in half from each point to create creases (I’m using white paper for DIY purposes!).
4. Bring each flat edge over half way until it meets the creases created by the previous step. Hold!
5. Crease the bottom between the two creased lines showed in the photograph. Repeat this process on all 5 sides to create a small pentagon inside your large pentagon.
6. It should look something like this. Half way there!
7. Pinch the corners of your small pentagon.
8. Bring all the points up together.
9. Gently push the points to the left and start flattening your star. Look at the next step to see what it should look like if you’re finding it difficult.
10. Your flat star should look like this on one side. Flip it over!
11. Now you want to make your star pointy. Fold each point in half so it begins to resemble a star. Continue process with the other points.
12.The final point will need tucking in carefully.
13. Ta-da! Your finished star. Now repeat as many times as you fancy to create your desired length garland. Don’t worry if your first star isn’t perfect, you’ve got plenty to make to finish your garland.
14. Get some thread and thread through star to star with a needle until you create your desired length Origami Star Garland. If you have any leftover stars, glue them onto card blanks to create Christmas cards. Happy hanging!

Do! Once you get the hang of it, they’re super easy to whip up! You could try other shapes too, I have a origami book but there are lots of tutorials on the internet. Have fun! X

I have a video on my blog post about this origami star, showing the tricky spiral squash fold in the middle :

Woah! I wish I had this when I did my first one. Mine was from my nieces origami book! x

Do you happen to remember what book it was in? I would like to give appropriate credit to the designer.
Lisa
I remember it was a book with other origami tutorials in- I don’t think they originated from the book though as they had other shapes etc i’ve seen before.Who created the first paper crane for instance? I know it originated from Japan and thats all! I didn’t think to credit as I thought it stemmed back years and hard to find the actual source – hopefully will find the book though to clarify!

Just remembered it was called Fold I think. Can’t see it on internet but sure it was!

Hi, Mathilde!
I’m going to make these as an add.on for Christmas cards. I just ordered 12″ double-sided origami paper, as I wish to make a statement with them. Yours are wonderful! I’m so glad I found this! Thanks!
