Books make a splendid gift. They’re personal, relatively affordable and they guarantee your friend/relative a few happy moments of rest. We all need a bit of that, don’t we?

Style Me Vintage Step-by-Step Retro Look Book is the ideal book to gift to anyone who adores clothes, hair, makeup and the retro look. It is full of inspiration from across the eras, an abundance of photographs, tutorials, really useful tips and techniques and pretty vintage styling to escape grey days. Sound good? I’ve been feeling less than glamorous of late whilst enduring a common cold, so a good read of Style Me Vintage was the ideal prescription. Parts of the book I enjoyed included: Top Tips For Buying Vintage, Where To Shop (which includes a directory of online vintage shops) and a wonderful chapter dedicated to The Looks of each era. Never again will I ponder what to dress as at a fancy dress party.

As for the tutorials, created by three clothing, makeup and hair experts, I’ve got as far as practising applying my eye liner for Fabulous Flicks. Oh the glamour. I now know NOT to pull my eyelid taught. Who knew? Yup, I’m always late to the party.

The tips and techniques can be applied to your daily routine and not just for dressing up in fancy dress. A touch of vintage/retro here and there is the way forward I think! So, when I’m feeling a tad more feminine (a red runny nose does not make a good look) I’ll attempt some of the hair tutorials – perfect for the dark nights drawing in.
