I love dungarees. Just like my other wardrobe favourites (hello cosy old jumper, dress with deep pockets and Christy dressing gown); they give me comfort. I admit that I wear them indoors at home more than I do outdoors in public. I’m not sure that they suit me completely (because of my own tummy/thigh issues) so last week I had a word with myself, and as I am a fully fledged member of the ‘wear what you like’ club I decided to take my new pair out for a spin in the May air (with a trench in tow of course, because it is the UK).
I’ve always thought if you’re the type of person that comments negatively on someone’s attire, it says a lot more about you than anything else. Quit being so judgmental and be kind. Oh, on that note, and to digress slightly. Did you watch Sprinkle of Glitter’s I’m So Sorry video last month? If not, go give it a watch as she made so many valid points that at the age of 37, I felt kinda stupid I was relating to. It was a good reminder to myself to quit beating myself up over everything, to try be more confident (it’s not showing off!), and to always stand up for myself and my choices. The video made me want to buy a Mickey Mouse t-shirt in solidarity too. In fact, it’s going on my wish list this instant!
Anyway, back to my happy outfit…
Dungarees| My previous pair fit me fine but the length was a little too long in the leg, and Polly somehow managed to rip them beyond repair (in her early puppy days!). These from Esprit are perfect. It can be difficult to find dungarees that fit the mid section of your body but as a size 14 these are a great fit (I ordered a size L). The denim is slightly distressed, the length is cropped and the bib has a front pocket which I got way too excited over. They’re currently out of stock on the site but keep your eyes peeled for more (all links at the bottom of the post).
Military Green Trench| I’ve wanted my very own cover-up hero for a while now but found the classic camel trench simply drained me. So instead I opted for a darker shade in green for all seasons. It suits the rest of my wardrobe (hello blues, blacks and reds) and it was a steal at only £30. I love TK Maxx.
Suede Trainers | I love the slight platform on these trainers and as we’re now heading into the drier months (here’s hoping) I know I’m going to get loads of wear out of them. The grey suede makes them super versatile to dress up or down and I love the contrasting trim and matching laces. Hurrah for May adventures!
P.S Who’s counting the days to the next Bank Holiday?!
