At Home: Scandi-Style Lounge Update with DFS

In my previous interiors blog post I talked about creating a relaxing home and how it can have many lifestyle benefits including making you and your loved ones feel happier, less stressed and more productive. With this in mind, I’m sharing a corner of our home that we’ve recently updated in collaboration with DFS. I love it so much folks, it’s my new favourite place to nap!

This corner of the lounge used to be home to an armchair, Polly’s crate and a table that we used as a TV stand. It didn’t look terrible and it served its purpose well as a space for Polly and TV/console chair for the OH. But I’d been itching to replace Polly’s crate (she’s always preferred her bed anyway) and create a more stylish area that reflects our tastes and lifestyle.

The TV table we used previously was beautiful but it meant that all the wires and appliances were out on show and made the room look cluttered and untidy. The leather armchair, although well used by the OH, felt too small for that particular space and I had a new spot in mind for it elsewhere in the house. As for the crate, Polly’s outgrown this now and there’s no way to make a dog crate look pretty my friends, even though I did try! So where to begin?

With the Scandi-style trend in mind, which I love for its clean lines and classic modern vibe, I chose the French Connection Marl Fabric Small Sofa as the main feature of the space. Grey is such a versatile colour, and soon as we placed it in the spot under the window the space immediately felt calm, serene and more put together. I love it when one piece of furniture does all the hard work!

The next step, knowing how much space we had to play with on either side of the small sofa, was to purchase a new TV sideboard for storage, and to tidy away the clutter. I opted for this affordable oak effect TV sideboard (links to everything at the bottom of my post) which matches the style of the sofa, and a very basic coffee table which I knew I could jazz up with accessories and blooms.

I chose white, green and monochrome accents that I already owned around the home including a large plant, lamp, coffee trays, ceramic dishes and vases but I kept the sofa cushion- free, apart from the side cushions that came with it, to create a more minimal laid back style and to not distract from the relaxed feel of the space.

The versatility of grey means it works with neutrals including woods, monochrome and earthy accents as well as bright vibrant pops of colour. So whatever your style, this contemporary and modern piece can suit all environments and give you the freedom to play around with different accent colours over the years.

As for reinventing this space, it’s become the spot to read books, chat, and nap away from the glare of the TV. It’s my go-to place at the beginning and end of the day (The OH and I fight for our evening spot) and as you can see, it’s Polly’s new favourite place too!

Hello I love your pictures, I just bought this sofa too, but wasn’t sure wether to order it in the charcoal or grey plain marl? Which material did you order this in? We couldn’t see the swatches in DFS
