Lately: March Thoughts

I’m pretty good at letting things go, moving on and looking forward so when a new month beckons after a ‘meh’ one it feels good to start a fresh chapter.

I was a bit rubbish last month. I used to get top marks in school for my effort in class but over the last few weeks I have to admit my brain has just not wanted to play ball – maybe I should have been wearing one of those ‘winging it’ t-shirts in today’s post. How do people with kids even get up in the morning when I’m struggling to look after my little family of three (having a dog counts, right?!).

Rather than dwell on it, I’m focusing on what I can accomplish in March. I’d like to focus on the tasks that give me a little peace; reading, running, writing, cooking new recipes and maintaining a tidy-ish home (which is ridiculous if you could see our house right now). I’ve had a couple of bad anxiety attacks lately that took me by surprise so I’m hoping if I can make more effort in the above (running a little further or picking up my book rather than the remote), then I might be better at adulting in general. Or I could just be overthinking it all? Most probably.

So hello, March. I started the month with a half week break to celebrate my birthday. We spent time walking Polly in all weathers (mostly rain *shakes fist at sky*), eating pub lunches and drinking cocktails with friends and family. Oh and there was lots of cake, which is always grand.

We spent my actual birthday in Haworth to show Polly the sights. I was lucky enough to get a new lens for my camera so we spent the afternoon playing with that, followed by a trip to Haworth Steam Brewery for a birthday tipple or two. The rest of the day was spent at home hiding from the rain in front of the open fire, eating cake and watching films. Perfect really.

Other highlights of the weekend included booking my place to roller skate a marathon (I am losing it for sure), remembering I have leftover birthday cake in the tin, watching the new This Girl Can advert (Roller Derby got a mention), taking comfort in having a great bloke who looks after me when I have scary anxiety attacks, spending guilt free birthday pennies, getting tickets for Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars documentary, having a pile of new books to read, and having chips after a very muddy dog walk.

What were your weekend highlights?
