20 Offline Blog Tasks

My previous blog post 25 Admin Tasks For Your Blog shares just some of the tasks that bloggers do behind the scenes, hobby bloggers and full-time bloggers included. However, most of the ideas I talk about involve logging in to your computer so today’s post will hopefully highlight the tasks you can approach without a laptop, desktop or mobile phone. Which is useful if your computer has broke, you’ve no internet connection, or simply need to unplug.

Over the holidays I really enjoyed having time away from the computer. That doesn’t mean to say I’d want to give it up completely, I live in the real world after all and I’m very grateful for this modern age we live in. But if I can be more purposeful with my time online and incorporate some of the calm I felt over the holidays then I’m all for it. Also I think there’s a notion (and a little guilt that comes with it) that if you’re not writing then you’re not actually working on the blog. When in fact, a blogger needs inspiration to create content, and that can be found (shock horror) offline too.

Whatever your motivation, I hope these tips, for all bloggers, will help you enjoy time guilt free time offline, and if you’ve lost your blogging mojo, help you get back on track.

1| Read. Whether you choose to read a book, magazine or newspaper article you might find inspiration for new posts, photography ideas or simply learn to enjoy the present. Reading improves your writing skills (think of it as exercise for the brain) and also helps to improve your concentration and focus.

2| Write a list of blog posts ideas then begin to make individual ideas for each post in your notebook.

3| Declutter your work space or research local cafes/libraries that have good wifi for a change of scenery to work from.

4| Research locations you’d like to visit that you want to share on your blog. Think further afield or simply get your coat on and look for ideas right on your own doorstep.

5| Craft or food blogger? Make something! Perfect that recipe!

6| Have a treasure hunt around your house or charity shops for photography props.

7| Set weekly, monthly or quarterly blog goals.

8| Take photos for your social media to use in the future. Not everything has to be instant if you’re still the voice behind it.

9| Meet up with fellow bloggers or plan a larger blogger meetup.

10|Fashion bloggers, plan 5 outfits (with clothes you already own) for upcoming photo shoots.

11| Practice using your camera on manual.

12| If you’re having time offline on purpose make plans in advance of the things you want to tick off your list, so you’re not tempted to hop back online.

13| Take time to manage your finances (if you earn money from your blog).

14| Listen to blog podcasts whilst on your commute/doing housework.

15| Share your blog (use those business cards you got printed ages ago) to your friends and work colleagues.

16| Write a hand written card to a fellow blogger/reader you speak to online.

17| Want to collaborate with brands? Work on a pitch and list 3 blog post ideas you have that will benefit the brand and your blog.

18| Plan workshop ideas to teach your blogging skills to small businesses.

19| Start a Bullet Journal to keep focus and organised.

20| Simply have time away from the blog. The world will not end, you will not lose your loyal followers and it will do you good. Pinky promise.
