Lately: My Festive Happy List

As much as I’ve been dreaming of our Christmas holiday I can’t quite believe how quickly it has arrived. It’s the week before Christmas, folks. What is that all about?

Now the presents have been bought and the tree is up, I’m keen to make sure I enjoy these last few days leading up to the holidays, even though, like everyone else, there is a lot of work to be done. In between work, I’ll be seeing my family, wrapping gifts, getting food ready for the big day, getting my hair cut, and planning adventures for the holidays. If I can squeeze in a trip to the cinema, that would be grand too. Gosh, life is too short and after a pretty emotional and stressful two weeks, I’m so pleased I can look to the holidays with a clear head and enjoy the small stuff.

I passed my Roller Derby mins test on Sunday (minus one little detail which I’ll smash in the New Year) which means I’m officially a Bruising Bandita and I’ll be playing my first championship game next year! I burst into tears like a big baby after the session. Confidence isn’t my strong point but needless to say, I felt proud of myself (and my awesome left leg for not playing up!) on Sunday. I’ll write a proper post about my Roller Derby rollercoaster ride in the new year. I can’t stop thinking about it now; the best present I could have wished for!

I don’t like to put too much pressure on Christmas Day, so here’s some festive moments that I’ve been enjoying. These are the days after all.

Outfit Details| Cowl Neck Jumper and Bobble Hat c/o Dash | Poppy Red Milkman Bag from Brit-Stitch | Black Jeans from New Look| Ankle Boots c/o Lotus

1| Turning the Christmas lights on in the morning. Why does this make me so happy?

2| Humming naff Christmas songs to myself.

3| Posting Christmas cards to friends and family (and asking the OH to photo it – he loves me really).

4| Giving Polly her carob advent calendar treat every day and chomping on my Lindt one.

5| Decorating the tree with the OH, agreeing on all the ornaments, and listening to festive tunes.

6| Hearing how friends and colleagues spend their Christmas. I love hearing other people’s  family traditions.

7| Wearing all the knitwear and feeling cosy. I LOVE my new cowl neck jumper, part of the Nordic collection from Dash (and in the sale too). It’s the perfect size to wrap yourself in entirely and it goes perfectly with my bright and festive Brit-Stitch bag.

8| Baking goodies for guests. Mince pies are on the to do list tomorrow. I’ve not had one yet!

9| Receiving Christmas cards and hanging them on the walls.

10| Finding random baubles on tree branches on the street where I live.

11| Opening gifts from a friend and realising we both have a COS obsession (we practically bought the same gifts for each other!).

12| Hanging our It’s a Wonderful Life print above the tree. Oh, James Stewart.

13| Finally getting over my cold.  Honey and lemon for the win!

14| Playing drunken scrabble with work colleagues
15| Planning a trip to Edinburgh with my buddy in the New Year.

16| Hearing my favourite Christmas song (Fairytale of New York, of course) come on the radio and turning it up full blast!

17| Getting a pair of festive Roller Derby socks from my secret santa!

18| The stillness of a winter’s morning and feeling the pinch of frost in the air.

19| Receiving a surprise posy of seasonal flowers from work. Eucalyptus, thistles and hydrangeas. Oh my.

20| Gazing through windows at people’s Christmas trees whilst on the bus. I’m a nosey one.

What’s on your festive happy list?
