At Home: Sleepbear, Hope Fashion & Christmas Card Writing

sleepbear

Happy Sunday chums! Up to anything nice? Decking the halls? Shopping for Christmas? Or hiding from the world under your cosy duvet?

This month is going to fly by so I’m trying to take it all in and enjoy the moments that have made Christmas so memorable in the past; trying to embrace the stress and all that jazz (see my previous post on tips for life on the go at Christmas). One of those traditions is writing Christmas cards to friends and family.

I know a lot of people give writing Christmas cards a miss nowadays but it’s just something that I have fond memories of and it’s a nice way to make contact with friends you haven’t spoken to much, bar the odd Facebook gesture. The only thing I don’t like is gathering all the addresses together (sends frantic WhatsApp messages).

Due to a delivery of a new mattress, this year’s card writing set up was in bed (any excuse), wearing loungewear, eating stolen and drinking hot chocolate. I know how to do Christmas, my friends. The charity cards are from John Lewis and I love the combination of colours of navy blue, blush pink and gold in a Nordic design. Nice, right?

As for the mattress, let me introduce you to my friends at Sleepbear. We’ve had our old mattress for around 6 years but it’s provided no support or comfort for the last two years. I’d wake up every couple of hours with back pain and spend the rest of the night trying to get comfortable again. I’ve got a roof over my head so I hate complaining about my sleep, but guys it really was a pain (literally). So I was delighted to collaborate with Sleepbear to see if I could have uninterrupted sleep for a change and just in time for Christmas.

It arrived compressed and boxed which we rolled out onto our bed frame, and immediately (although you should probably leave it for a few minutes) jumped on. It takes time to adapt to new mattreses but I could tell the difference from our previous one straight away. My whole body felt supported, not just parts of it (which is why I think I’d wake up in pain previously).

The Sleepbear hypoallergenic mattress is designed and made in the UK and is made of pure latex, and three clever layers that provide extra bounce and cloud like/unbelievable comfort.

The week we received the mattress I couldn’t give an accurate opinion on its comfort as I’d strained myself too much at Roller Derby, and had trouble getting myself in to bed at all, but since then my sleep has steadily improved. I’ve woken up most mornings having had a full nights sleep and NO back pain at all.

I’ll provide a more in depth look a the hypoallergenic mattress after a few months, as it will be interesting to see how my body adapts to it over time. Plus I’ll be having a Christmas break from skating soon so that should provide more insight. In the meantime here’s some info on those cushy layers:

1| Pure latex top layer (4cm) – sumptuous comfort & bounce, naturally regulates body temperature. Perforated for extra airflow.

2| Memory foam middle layer (6cm) – responds and adapts, no matter your sleeping position.

3| Super dense base layer (15cm) – the foundation that cushions & supports you where you need it most to ensure you wake feeling rested and revitalised each & every day.

Generally if I’m planning on staying at home I’ll wear loungewear so I can relax entirely in my very own stay-at-home bubble. This outfit combo is a little more luxurious though and made up of the Hope Fashion silk lounge pants in slate and the Kimono cardigan in black, which of course makes the perfect Christmas Day outfit once the dog walking and cooking is done.

The kimono cardigan is the warmest cardigan I own but is really lightweight too. You know when you just need something timeless to throw on all year round that doesn’t compromise on style? Well this is it.

The silk pants are a dream to wear, and make relaxing indoors all the better. Plus they have pockets. And we know how much I love a pocket.

The sizing system for Hope Fashion is genius. They focus entirely on shape, rather than a number and design clothes for all shapes and sizes. My dual slim cardigan and curvy lounge pants fit perfectly. Read more about Hope sizing here. I wish other retailers would take note!

Then there’s that hot chocolate. I went a little over top with the topping, dived into our baking cupboard and found marshmallows and white chocolate stars. Luxury all the way!

Now then, how many days to the Christmas holidays?
