My Favourite Things to do in December in Hebden Bridge
If you’ve read my blog for a while you will know by now how much I love the town that I live in. I’ve lived in Hebden Bridge in Calderdale, West Yorkshire, the longest I’ve lived anywhere in my adult life. There is no where else I’d like to call home.
I’ve talked before on its amazing independent shops, cafes and businesses, its beautiful location and awesome community but today I’m focusing on the little traditions that I enjoy in the weeks leading up to Christmas; my favourite things to do in Hebden Bridge in December.
1| Decluttering and donating goodies to Shelter and RSPCA charity shops on Bridge Gate (and inevitably buying more bits!).
2| Picking up my favourite indie magazines in prep for the holiday downtime. Good indie mag stockists include Heart Gallery, Snug Gallery, Oasis News and The Book Case.
3| Watching an Elevenses screening at Hebden Bridge Picture House (I am not biased – it’s the BEST). The atmosphere is always great plus the tea/coffee and biscuits come free with your ticket. £6 entry every Thursday at 11am (Doors 10.30am). Perfect activity for escaping the rain.
4| Buying doggy gifts and Christmas Eve pupcakes from The Lampost Cafe for Polly.
5| Picking up a takeaway cappuccino from Squeeze on Crowne Street (at their new amazeballs premises) before work. I always drink more takeout drinks in winter. Gimme all the hot drinks. Brrr.
6| Walking up to Heptonstall via Eaves woods (my favourite!).
7| Buying a box of handcrafted chocolates from Something Sweet as seasonal treat.
8| The Christmas lights switch on in the square. Although this year I’ll be rushing back to watch the new series of Gilmore Girls.
9| Getting my hair cut at Circle of Friends in time for festivities.
10| Posting my Christmas cards at a remote post box miles from town (it makes me feel Christmassy!). More on this soon. Ooh the suspense.
11| Stalking the Christmas aisle at the coop. Ahem.
12| A winter walk to Stoodley Pike followed by amaretto at the Stubbing Wharf pub.
13| Looking for gifts at the Christmas Artfair at the Town Hall. November 26th 11am-4pm.
14| Taking photographs on our dog walks and capturing the seasonal changes.
15| Drinking mulled wine with friends at Old Gate pub
16| Going for a run to Mytholmroyd and listening to festive tunes (the Phil Spector A Christmas Gift For You album is ace).
17| Buying a Christmas tree decoration from one of the galleries or shops.
18| Ordering our winter fuel from Bonsalls and organising the wood in our wood store.
19| Foraging for foliage to make a front door wreath.
20| Buying our Christmas tree from Holts Groceries. I can’t wait to choose one in a couple of weeks.

This is a really lovely post! We want to visit Hebden Bridge now, especially to try out the cinema – tea and biscuits included, we are there!

I love Hebden Bridge, especially the Lamppost! And that little ceramics shop that sells everything at such bargain prices – my sister and I went a bit crazy in there last time we visited.
I didn’t know there was an independent picture house, and I totally want to go now. And I don’t work Thursdays…:-)
Gorgeous photos as always! x

Let me know when you do and I will treat you to a freebie (that’s where I work!) : )

Love this post! We live in Prestwich but love escaping the city – we’re visiting Hebden Bridge for the second time this weekend and will definitely be checking out the art fair 🙂
