10 DIY Tips and Christmas Gift Ideas

I’m starting this year’s Christmas gift guides with a nod towards the DIY savvy amongst you. I never seem to find time any more to make my own gifts, probably because I prioritise eating Bourbon biscuits whilst watching Gilmore Girls on an evening. How do you eat yours by the way? Anyhoo. I’d like to make a little something this year, perhaps small stocking fillers that might be appreciated amongst some of my friends.

If you’re tempted to get your crafty on this Christmas now’s a good time to start planning. So today I’m sharing some brilliant projects by my favourite DIY bloggers and tips to get you started too.

1| Start planning now. Choose your project, write your materials list and set aside a day to get making.

2| Check your craft supplies to see if there’s anything you can use in your project.

3| Choose just one DIY project to focus on that you can gift to 2 or more people. Then you can ensure your craft materials won’t go to waste and you don’t have too many projects on the go. Crafting is meant to be fun not stressful after all.

4| Pick a DIY you’ve always wanted to try so you get enjoyment out of the project too. And make yourself a gift too!

5| If, like me, you find yourself making everything at the last minute, make sure you check last postage dates and next day delivery services.

6| If you’re gifting to someone who loves to get crafty then give the gift and also the materials to make one themselves too.

7| For the person who has everything, print off photographs to make a photo garland. I love the chic and minimal design of this one by Homey oh My.

8| Gift your handmade items with something bought. The Scandi Trivet Trays paired with a new mug  would make a lovely gift.

9| Choose a craft project that is kid friendly and get them involved too. The Terrarium by The Lovely Drawer would be perfect for this!

10| If you find you simply don’t have the time to dedicate to making handmade gifts (no judgment here, folks) why not try decorating your parcels or cards this year instead? There are so many ideas or Pinterest to make your gifts look extra special.

Happy crafting!
