How to Style Culottes in Autumn/Winter

I surprised myself this year by adding culottes into my wardrobe, but they’re now a favoured piece of clothing that I wear regularly for work and play. They’re flattering on most shapes, they’re versatile to wear and they’re great for showing off your shoes too, whether you’re into flats, heels or both. Now a big fan of the coveted culotte, I’m really keen to make my current wardrobe work throughout the in-between seasons and in the cooler months too. So a little research had to be done, naturally.

I looked to Pinterest for inspiration and worked out that with a little help from the rest of your wardrobe your spring/summer culottes can work next season too. 1| Wear your thickest culottes if you’re particularly partial to the cold, but don’t forget that the rest of your outfit will keep you warm.

2| Add tights. Pair the tights with brogues, heels or knee-high boots to see you through any showery days. Wear natural tan coloured tights if you prefer.

3| Opt for mid-calf length culottes.

4| Wear your culottes with polo necks (tuck in to define your waist), chunky knit jumpers and oversized jackets to keep you cosy. Think layers!

5| Wear high-waisted culottes with long-sleeved shirts (tucked in) for the perfect work outfit.

6| Find culottes with pockets to warm up your hands.

7| Show off your shoes! Wear trainers, brogues and loafers in autumn and look to your knee-high boots in the winter.

8| Pair any summery-style culottes with contrasting textures like a chunky knit scarf or bobble hat.

9| Wear any summer crop tops or boxy tops with your high waited culottes, and simply add a cardigan too.

10| Wear them with longline coats to take you into winter.
