DFS: The Britannia

Today I’m really pleased to be collaborating with my friends at DFS in celebration of Team GB, and the fantastic summer of sport we have to look forward to.

Prior to training for Roller Derby I never classed myself as the sporty type but I’ve always enjoyed watching sport and supporting our national teams from the comfort of my sofa.

After a mere 5 hours of Roller Derby training a week I’m now a lot more appreciative of the commitment and effort athletes put into their career. The stress on my body after training for only 3 hours has me crying for the sofa/dog cuddles/tea. So if anyone deserves to put their feet up at the end of work/training day, Olympic athletes certainly do.

DFS knows the importance of relaxation better than anyone, and is now the official homeware partner for Team GB at this summer’s Olympics in Rio. DFS has unveiled The Britannia, a limited edition handcrafted sofa (it’s so beautiful!) designed in honour of Team GB’s participation on this summer’s Rio Olympics. You can check out the making of the sofa here:

Philip Watkin, said:
As the official homeware partner for Team GB, we wanted to create something that our own craftspeople could apply their skills to in order to support our athletes when they most needed to relax during the games. In doing so, we set out to design an iconic piece of furniture that would represent Great Britain’s proud history of design, quality and craftsmanship. We enlisted the help of one of the best fabric suppliers in the UK to join forces with our own upholstery team to hand-craft an update on the Chesterfield classic that Olympics fans can cherish for years to come.

Not only has the sweeping ‘camel back’ frame been cut and assembled by hand in their Derbyshire wood mill but the luxurious fabric was sourced from my neighbouring county of Lancashire; a celebration of British craftsmanship.

To capture the spirit of the athletes, the design has striking golden studs on the scroll arms and handmade gold coloured buttons deep in the pleated back to represent past Team GB gold medals.

Good luck Team GB! If you’d like the chance to go to Rio and support our athletes don’t miss your chance to win a pair of tickets here. Follow DFS and the hashtag #GreatBrits on Twitter or Instagram for more details!
