Lately: Skatemania, NCC Writing Diploma and Spring

Wowee. It’s been a busy few weeks. I’ve woken up most days not knowing what day it is – I think my brain has given up. Time to start planning another holiday me thinks. Or at least have a lie in (Polly, are you listening?). In the meantime let’s focus on, you guessed it, the shiny happy positive elements of my life lately.

New hair do| I like it! It’s taken a while to get used to but it’s in much better condition and perfect for spring/summer prancing. I like to prance.

Painting the spare room | I used up some of our leftover black paint from the office and painted one wall black. I’m a tad obsessed. We just need a pair of curtains to replace the one curtain that is currently there. Oh and maybe if I put my clean clothes away quicker it might look tidy too. Ahem.

Creative Writing Diploma | I’m working with NCC Home Learning over the coming months and will be studying for my Creative Writing Diploma online. It’s all very exciting. I feel I’ve fallen into a writing rut over the years and I want to bring the creative back. The course covers writing screenplays, short stories, poetry, novels and writing for radio – all of which I’m interested in. Although life is very busy right now, you should always make time for things that bring joy and although I could simply write at any time, doing a course will help me to stay focused, explore and improve my writing skills. I’ll keep you posted on the course and my progress. Best get writing!

Planning Meetups| With friends, work colleagues and Derby friends. It’s going to be a fun summer.

Roller Derby/Skating fun| It’s been a great week. I got my personal best at Roller Derby training (25 laps in 5 mins – 2 to go!) and on Saturday I skated half a marathon at Skatemania in 1 hour and 28 mins. I’m not smug, I’m just so chuffing proud. My body might take a little longer in getting fit and it still has all the annoying lumps and bumps, but it’s getting stronger every week. I can’t recommend skating enough.

In other Roller Derby related news I got tickets for London Rollergirls v Gotham Girls in Newark next month. Yay!

Getting our milk delivered | Who knew this would make me so happy?

Watching Game of Thrones| It’s my comfort blanket. It makes me ridiculously happy. Perfection. In other Game of Thrones news, Rob Stark (Richard Madden) is playing Romeo in Kenneth Branagh’s Romeo and Juliet in July, screening live in cinemas. I will definitely be watching.

Dementia awareness week | It couldn’t have been better timed. After a couple of weeks of feeling pretty  overwhelmed after dad’s diagnosis, it’s been good to learn more about Alzheimer’s, and the research that is happening and the support that is out there.

Nice Post | I’ve had some lovely post lately from thoughtful friends (you know who you are) and it really has helped to keep me focused.

Other simple things | Walks with Polly and the OH, morning coffee with the door open, bluebell hunting, wearing new jewellery, potting succulents, having a Bumblebee for company whilst skating (if only for 10 secs!), painting my nails, hanging the washing outdoors, baking cookies and enjoying the sunshine…

What have you been up to lately?

I love your haircut – it really suits you. I am in awe of your skating prowess – you rock!

Dementia and Alzheimer’s are deeply misunderstood – I hope getting information gives you comfort – knowledge is power!

Also props for the writing course – you have always been a lovely writer – you have a great “voice” so I’d love to see where you go with the course. x
