A Day in the Life

A Day in the Life - Mathilde heart Manech
I’ve never written A Day in The Life blog post before but it’s these type of posts that got me interested in reading blogs nearly 6 years ago. I like a good nosey.

In my working life I wear many hats. Three to be precise. I work in marketing for an independent cinema, as a freelance writer/digital marketing type and finally, I write this blog. I work set hours for my part time permanent job, working two thirds of my hours in the office and a third at home. The rest of my freelance/blog work is done working from my home office.

This particular day was on a freelance/blog day but I have to be honest in that the photos of my outfit and walk were taken at the weekend by my OH, while walking Polly. It was the same route though. Ahem.

6.30-7.30am My day begins. Polly wakes us up before the alarm. Yes, she still sleeps at the end of the bed and yes, I used to say I would never let a dog sleep on my bed. I am soft. I  weak. But she’s a comfort and I like waking up to her happy face.

We take it in turns in the morning to take Polly outside and feed her (so one of us gets an extra half hour in bed). Today it’s my turn. Yawn. I then nip to the bathroom, pop the kettle on and watch the BBC news while I drink my tea. Milk and one sugar.

After tripping up the stairs (I thought I saw a spider) I head to the bathroom for my usual morning routine. It’s a no shower day (I don’t shower every day, is that bad?!), I wash my face with exfoliating scrub, then add face oil and moisturiser. Brush hair and apply minimal makeup (concealer, blush and mascara). I look in the mirror and my grey hairs are peering back at me in force. Must pick up some hair dye.

P.S Pebble Grey* have started a campaign looking into people’s bathroom habits, and found out that 1 in 10 wash their hair once a week or less and over a third of people (35%) admit to not showering or bathing daily. I’ve never showered daily in my life.  Am I utter filth? What are your bathroom habits? Answers on a postcard.

7.30-8am Dishwasher and washing machine go on. Clean counters. Tidy away pup toys…I really should do all of this the night before. Ho hum. Time to get dressed.

Today’s outfit is a simple black bodycon dress. I often opt for a pair of jeans and denim when working from home but I was meeting a friend later and wanted to try my new dress. Dresses like this are easy to dress up and down whether you’re working in an office, at home or going out for drinks in the evening. For the day I paired it with a denim jacket, walking boots and I got my knobbly knees out especially for the spring sunshine. You’re welcome.

8-10am Check social media for permanent job and reply/send/take note of work emails. Writing and scheduling social media posts takes longer than people think, it takes longer than I think. Eat banana.

10am-11.15am Walk Polly. Whilst I’m doing all of the above Polly is usually sleeping again, but as soon as 10am strikes she’s ready for her walk. We meet a friend and pick up some eggs and cake from the Honesty Box – a fantastic little farm produce shed, that also stocks ice cream!

11.15 Kettle on. Sort washing out.

11.30 – 1.30 Take and edit photos for blog posts. I downloaded A Color Story on my phone for Instagram photographs but now use the app to edit my blog photos too. It’s my favourite photo editing app by far; I don’t use anything else now. I Check social media and downloaded iMovie for my phone.

1.30pm Lunch. Cheese on toast, cut into triangles and hot chocolate. My ultimate comfort food.

2pm – 5.30pm I write a press release and draft copy for two blog posts. Pull my hair out as laptop crashes. Continue the rest on my phone. Praise my new phone to the OH via whatsapp then pop Radio 6 Music on. PJ Harvey is playing.

5.30pm Sort tea. We’re having leftover chilli and jacket potatoes which makes me happy (I love using up leftovers for another meal). I then proof a blog post on my phone and mark emails that I need to reply to in the morning.

7.30pm Polly watches me while I get dressed for a drink in town. It’s a tad colder outside so I swap my pasty legs for black tights, ankle boots, leather jacket and scarf.

Home at 10ish. Change into dressing gown. Check in on social media. Write list for things to do tomorrow. Laugh at photographs of Polly, then bed. Hurrah!

I really enjoyed documenting the day in details (minus the loo breaks) so I will be sharing more A Day in the Life blog posts soon featuring some of the clobber I wear, food I eat and other exciting, groundbreaking stuff. What fun.

Toodle pips!
