At Home: Dining Area

Polly at home

We’ve been looking for the perfect dining table set for our small open plan living area for nearly a year. The struggle was real, my friends. When we moved in we filled the space with a secondhand sideboard for extra storage and didn’t worry too much about where we, or others, would eat. We just merrily ate our meals on our laps, and expected our friends and family to do the same. We’re nice like that. Ahem.

Over the months we realised the sideboard was basically just another dumping ground for stuff we never used (a useful point in Marie Kondo’s The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying – storage isn’t always the solution), so we decided a table and chairs would be a better fit and would make a practical solution while eating in front of a puppy who wants to eat all of your food.

We had three main issues when choosing the right dining table and chairs. Firstly, the size. It’s a small space and although there are plenty 2/4 person tables out there, they all looked the same and weren’t quite right. Secondly, the carpet. A contemporary table and chairs might not look right on a carpet, so what type of dining table would work?Thirdly, we needed a dining set that would match the walnut kitchen cupboards. In came Lakeland Furniture, based in Manchester.

The walnut wood legs are a perfect match and the contemporary style helps to create a more open space, even though the living area is small. The table comfortably seats 4 people (we keep two chairs in another room) and while our office is out of action, it doubles-up as the perfect work table during the day.

The black surface is easy to maintain, and matches the kitchen counter tops and Houseology Pendant Light to a tee. Plus, it’s super close to our record player so we now make sure a record goes on with our meals every night. Make it all fancy, like.

It’s made meal times easier with Polly too. No more barking in our face or staring us out. She just hangs out by our feet until we’re done (searching for crumbs no doubt). Ah, we’re so pleased with it! To the point I bring it up in conversation almost every meal time. I’m that cool, guys.

P.S How pretty are those daffodils? Spring is finally on its way.

Disclosure: I was gifted the dining table set for purposes of this review. As always, all opinions are my own. I love it. With bells on.
