Just Pinned: The Inspiring

Patti Smith

With only two weeks to go till Christmas I’ve started dreaming of the things I’ll get up to during my 2 week holiday. Napping, walking and eating feature a lot on the list, alongside consuming Amaretto-based cocktails and eating ALL the buffet food. It will be special, my friends. Oh yes.

Whilst I’m looking forward to quality time at home, I also want to make sure I spend it doing things purposefully. Don’t get me wrong, I want to laze on the sofa in my dressing gown and Christmas socks, I just don’t want to beat myself up about it. Does that make sense? So instead of flicking through the TV channels watching half of this or that (then suddenly realising the day has gone) I’m going to dedicate whole days to the Gilmore Girls (OH – this is your heads up), or spend time perfecting recipes and finally finishing that book that’s been sat on my bedroom dressing table.  Simply, I just want those 16 day off to be inspiring so I can approach 2016 with a high five/fist bump.

JD Williams wrote a blog post about inspirational women recently inspired by the BBC, and it made me think not only about the women in my life but also of all the things that excite me and that make me want to be a better person in 2016. So naturally I’m filling up my Pinterest (and your feed) with the people, things and thoughts that I will be channeling in 2016.

Friends. My friends have gone through so much this year from having babies, new careers, health, money and family issues to incidents in the garden centre (that’s another story), but always with a humble and positive attitude. Through the good, the bad and the mediocre I’m going to think of them.

Polly. Oh Polly. I already thought I was pretty good at living in the moment but she’s taught me to stop worrying so much, because hardly any of it matters. It just doesn’t. She gives us so much joy, and my days would be pretty dull without her. P.S She’s almost 6 months old, you guys!

Patti Smith. Poetic, strong, funny, gracious, humble. Only a taste of what I thought of her at Glastonbury this year. She woke me up. Gah, I know that’s cheesy. But oh so true. If you haven’t read her recent work, treat yourself this Christmas. Her words, her music…oh my.

Film. I work in a industry that I love. Just being able to say that means the world after lots of jobs feeling not quite so happy or appreciated. Like Patti, I’m simply feeling like the captain of my ship. I have so much to learn (which is even more exciting) but working with great people in a impassioned industry has made my first year or so a joy. Grateful is the word.

Roller Derby. This deserves a whole blog post in itself and when I have time to put pen to paper (hello Christmas) I will. Let’s just say these women (and men) are an absolute inspiration in terms of fitness, skill and making me smile on a weekly basis. I’ve got a long way to go but a Bruising Bandita, I shall be!

What’s inspiring you lately?
