At Home: Preparing For Christmas

I am very pleased with myself today as over the weekend I made a big dent with the Christmas shopping.  I’ve yet to buy all those awkward little gifts, I have cards to write and everything to wrap and beautify, but I’m feeling much more organised than last year, which means I can start enjoying the season in all its finery. Disco!

The only thing I’ve not thought about until now is getting the house prepared for the season (does drinking sherry on the sofa count?). Instead of getting our usual Christmas tree this year, we’re opting for a smaller one which we can raise off the floor, away from excitable paws. I even thought we’d do without one this year but Christmas isn’t the same without a tree, and more importantly, unearthing all the baubles we’ve collected over the years.

Picking a new Christmas decoration for the tree has become an annual tradition of ours (followed by a trip to the pub for a glass of hot mulled wine!). They make affordable gifts too, perhaps for the folk in your life who you usually just have a celebratory drink with. Popping a decoration in the post for a baby’s first Christmas for example, is an lovely way to let someone know you’re thinking of them.

The Christmas collection from HomeSense has a great on-trend selection including monochrome baubles and origami penguins, to felted animals and seasonal ice skates. Not forgetting a bag of chocolate coins that always take centre stage in the centre of our tree!

Are you having a tree this season? Do you change the theme each year or welcome back old decorations?

P.S How great is that penguin?!
