Furniture Thoughts

living room

When we moved house last September we already had furniture to bring with us from our rented property and although most of it was on its last legs we were relieved at least we had somewhere to sleep and sit on as we settled into our new home. As romantic as it was to eat takeout pizza sat on cardboard boxes on the first night, I was definitely in need of a proper bed (and a week of sleep) after the months of house buying drama.

Throughout the year we’ve not done too bad picking up pieces for the house. We’ve added two bed frames, a sideboard, two armchairs, a bedside table and a bathroom cabinet. Rather than simply wanting to replace old furniture these were things we really did need and fortunately we found some bargains via eBay too (I love our sideboard!). I think the key to adding furniture to a home is to prioritise first then think about replacing or upcycling pieces that you may no longer love.

Now we’re a year on we’re beginning to look at our old pieces from the previous house and starting to think about replacing them with something that suits the house and our taste; the two priorities being a new sofa and a square dining table, similar to this from Quercus Living, which has subsequently been added to the shortlist.

As we don’t have one already, the dining table is a priority. It would be peachy to have our guests over without having to eat dinner on our laps and to chat without straining my neck! To save on costs, I have my Nanna’s old dining chairs which simply need a quick paint-makeover to complement our table of choice. To finish it all off I’ve got my eye on a wire pendant lamp to hang above the table to create a cosy dining space just for the two of us (with Polly at our feet no doubt!).

If you’re looking for a dining table too, take a look at the Quercus Dining Table Dining Guide for great advice on choosing your piece of furniture as well as looking after it, so it last for years to come.
