At Home: Lofty Ambitions
Can you believe it’s been almost a year since we moved house? Crazy stuff! Looking back through old blog posts from this time last year feels totally surreal. I spent most of last summer feeling anxious, poorly and excited. Then in September, absolutely elated. Nearly a year on, I am only thankful that the house-buying stress is over and that our home is everything we could have hoped for and more. Plus we have a puppy on the way! Here’s some photographs from over the year…
As a first time home owner there has been extra expenditures we weren’t used to as renters; mainly home insurance, repairs and maintenance but we’ve got to grips with it all now and try to put as much back into the property as our pennies will allow.
One of the rooms we really love (and that sold the house to us) is our attic/loft bedroom. We were lucky in that the room was already converted when we bought the house so I could imagine what we’d use it for immediately. Our neighbours converted theirs into a living/dining space with en-suite bathroom and kitchen area too. For now, we’re keeping it simple and use it as our master bedroom/film room…
The room is ideal as a film room as it includes a large white wall we use as the screen for our projector so we can watch old classics to our hearts content. The OH has lofty ambitions of an observatory too, but I don’ think our one skylight and non-existence budget will stretch to that. Star-gazing is always best outdoors anyway…although I am tempted.
Of course there is always decorative and DIY projects to do. We really need built-in storage, I’d love to change the flooring and add new lighting too. But for now, and because it’s important to appreciate what you’ve got, I’ll settle in for another movie in bed.
Do you have a converted loft/attic space? How do you use yours?
P.S Look out for more home-inspired posts on the blog over the coming weeks; the puppy proofing has begun!

we had our badly converted loft space made into two kids bedrooms this year. We are still decorating the fallout, but we love it. Still need to take decent pictures for the blog but it’s totally changed our house. It’s like having a new home

Exactly, and it’s nice to have an extra ‘useable’ room rather than somewhere to dump all the stuff!

Such a pretty space, you’re making me so impatient to get a place of our own. Buying a house sure is stressful x xx

It will happen before you know it! How exciting though! In the meantime, enjoy not having to pay for repairs etc 😉

Aww it has me longing for my old cottages again. I love places with character but it came to be we took on a new house when the boys came along so I miss the little nooks and crannies and details which make older properties so interesting. Still the new place has proved a challenge for me to decorate – it’s a little more difficult for inspiration but a whole lot easier in terms of maintenance. And yes those hidden costs are a drain – it’s the things which keep everything going but you don’t get any emotional joy from it.

Sometimes new is good;the nooks and crannies get very dusty!
