Barker and Stonehouse Sleep Guide

For the past four weeks I’ve been involved in an exciting campaign run by Barker and Stonehouse on how to get the best night’s sleep. A team of bloggers including myself were given a package of natural sleep remedies to trial out over the month, reporting back each week with our finds.

For my first week I trialled out the Sleep CD (see below) which I found soothing and helpful in aiding a calming sleep (I noticed less disturbed sleep patterns). I’m used to having podcasts or music played before we go to sleep so this didn’t make as much of an impact than the other remedies but it was useful in relieving stress (I remember being particularly anxious that week).

For my second week I tried hot baths. I rarely have baths mainly because they take longer than jumping in to the shower, and I find I never have the time. But after making an considered effort I’ve noticed dramatic benefits. Using the restorative Rose Otto Bath Oil was a real treat and helped my whole body relax before bed. The main benefit however was improvements with my backache. Sometimes I wake up in the night with pain but I found on the nights I had a hot bath, I didn’t (every single time).

Sleep Remedies

The third week I was at Glastonbury Festival so I made sure I took my new eye mask with me. What a revelation! Not only was it useful in the bright mornings to help with sleeping in (it was my holiday after all) but I now wear it every night to block out the early morning sunshine from our skylight (we need to get a blind!). This was my favourite sleeping aid and a great eye mask too.

On the final week, I tested the Boots Lavender Pillow Spray. I’ve always used lavender spray as part of my night-time routine so I didn’t discover anything new other than this particular spray’s scent lasted longer. Lavender is great for aiding a good night’s rest and it’s great for snoring too! I’m not mentioning any names here. Ahem.
