Made! Cardmaking Workshop with Julia Ogden

Last week the clouds descended over Hebden Bridge and the rain fell hard; the perfect opportunity to stay indoors and settle into an afternoon of crafting. Luckily, it just so happened to be the day I was going to a Cardmaking Workshop at Julia Ogden’s Art Studio. So while the rain worked its magic outdoors, we got busy making greeting cards and envelopes using printing and collage techniques that Julia taught us. Hurrah for making a big crafty mess!

The best part of the day was realising that you can craft using everyday materials you have around the house; recycled envelopes (cool blue patterns inside – at last there is a positive to receiving bills in the post!), maps, graph paper, bubble wrap, sponges, cling film and the list goes on!

We started by sponging sheets of paper with acrylic paint, using an everyday kitchen sponge, to be used later as envelopes and for collage. I then sponged a contrasting paint onto a small section of bubble wrap to print onto my paper. Once dry, then came the collage fun!

I made my dad a Father’s Day card then played with some cloud, balloon and lighthouse ideas whilst other workshop attendees made cards filled with flowers, seascapes, garden and abstract designs.

Workshops are awesome, indeed they are. I always come away feeling inspired and motivated and they are the perfect opportunity to just switch off and do! I came away with ink and paint-stained fingers (I might of pretended I was an artist for the rest of the day – ahem) and have lots of ideas for cardmaking DIYs for future Made! blog posts which I’ll share when I return from my holibobs.
