52 Lists: Things You Wished You Knew When You Were 18

Anthropologie

1. Stand up for yourself | You’re an awkward girl and that will never change but you also can be feisty when you need to be. To the friends or strangers you meet who take the mickey out of you, give as good as you get!

2. Save Money | Ignore your overdraft. It is NOT free money and spending this money will cause you lots of stress years after. Save your money for an awesome holiday with friends and don’t spend beyond your means.

3. Keep watching films | Don’t listen to your mum  about watching too many films (she does mean well though). There’s no such thing as ‘too many films’, and you’ll end up promoting films and an awesome cinema for a living when you are older.

4. Keep writing | Keep filling your notebooks full of your thoughts and stories.

5. Look after yourself | Try not to have too many sleepless nights and take your epilepsy medication. Your health will improve!

6. Boys | Always be yourself (yes, even your awkward self!) and concentrate on being happy. You will meet someone awesome when you least expect it.

7. Don’t worry so much| Right now, you’ll have just dropped out of one university and are completely at a loss as to what your future will be. Don’t worry, you weren’t meant to go to Leeds University. You were meant to leave Yorkshire and meet the best friends you could ever wish for at Manchester.

8. Spend more time with family | Say yes to days out with your mum and dad, fishing trips with your dad and yes to trips abroad with your Nanna. These memories will never leave you.

9. Ask your sister about makeup and hair | She knows everything about beauty and hair, use her brain to channel your feminine side even if you are a bit of tomboy.

10. Keep learning | Never stop learning. Read, watch, listen and always ask questions.

11. Embrace technology | The internet will change your life, don’t be scared of it!

Oh how I wish I had not been so terrible with my money 🙁 By the end of my twenties I had so much debt and nothing to show for it! I nearly went bankrupt in 2008 but managed to avoid it and it took me 5 LONG years to pay it all off (not the student loan – that’s still going – doesn’t really count, right!). I also wish I had just stayed true to myself and knew the things that I was into then ARE my passions and that it wasn’t a passing teenage fad. Ah sometimes I wish I could travel schools and give talks on why not to spank your money and focus on what you enjoy, love & like and to put yourself out there and have confidence and passion! Phew – probs wouldn’t have listened anyway when i was 18! lol Thanks for the post xx

SO true Amy! My passions were film, writing and music and I’ll always regret my time in other jobs, not incorporating my passions.Life is too short. xx
