Lately: Home and Away

Home office

A colleague asked me the other day how my weekend was, and I had to take more than a minute to remember what I actually did. Life seems to be whizzing by in a blur at the moment, so I thought I’d share my recent camera snaps to remind me what I’ve been up to lately!

Home life is good, work life is dandy and cross fingers (and toes and knees) that my dad is in a positive place. The one thing I’ve found the hardest with my dad’s cancer is the waiting. Waiting for the next prognosis, the next appointment, the results etc. It really does take its toll. But now I’m beginning to realise I can’t control any of that and to just take each step as it comes.

We’ve been on one hell of a roller coaster ride since last September, from hearing it was a good prognosis one minute to aggressive cancer the next (who likes to hear the word aggressive, huh?). To date, we’re back to a good prognosis again. And breathe! P.S A big thank you to all the messages I received asking about my dad, you’re a lovely bunch, and it really does mean a lot.

Without further ado let’s take a peek at all the silly little things that make me happy at home and away. Cue the tulips!

Tulips

I cannot stop taking pictures of flowers. It’s a condition, I’m sure. Tulips in particular are the perfect model, don’t you think?

Mollie and Fred Glass Dome

Glass Dome c/o Mollie and Fred

I love our Mollie and Fred glass dome paired with the OH’s terrarium and fossil. I’m going to rotate what we keep in it as I know this little cactus will need some air, but Chirpy the Flamingo certainly likes her new home. Ah windowsills, home to all things lovely.

Mollie Makes Social Media

I’ve learnt so much about Social Media in the past month (for work and play) from reading articles, blog posts, and attending workshops. Then I stumbled upon the Mollie Makes Social Media magazine via Instagram. It’s such a great resource, especially if you’re using social media to develop your business.

I could really get used to this sunshine. I have a sneaky feeling it’s going to bugger off at the weekend, but then perhaps I won’t feel as bad about sleeping in a little longer. It’s a win-win situtation.

New loafers from New Look, more tulips and appreciating every second of no-coat weather!

This wire basket is used for kindling in the winter and magazines for the summer. We’re totally in summer now, right? I am tempted to buy some more fuel just in case. I LOVE OUR FIRE!

Trips to Haworth. I’m hoping the weather is going to behave this weekend so we can do the mammoth walk from Hebden Bridge to Haworth. I’m going to make an epic picnic and do lots of Kate Bush prancing on the moors. Ahem.

More walks with boo. Since we moved we’ve found even more walks in Hebden Bridge that we weren’t ever aware of. I’m besotted with the countryside we live in.

I knew I’d love the new Sleater-Kinney album, it’s right up my street. But I’m gutted I didn’t get tickets to see them in Manchester now. Glastonbury, maybe? I’ve downloaded every single Patti Smith album in preparation for the festival. I CAN’T WAIT!

Garden delights. I’ll be sharing our little garden space next week on the blog.

Friday night waves. Excuse the split ends, I keep putting off going to the hairdressers.

Tulips

Erm, more tulips but this time in the sunshine.

Hmm, what else? We went to Manchester last week to watch the fantastic Godspeed You! Black Emperor, we’ve walked, ate pub lunches, had lovely relaxing evenings in beer gardens and ate lasagna at my favourite Italian (La Perla in Hebden Bridge – best Italian EVER).

What have you been up to lately?

First of all lovely, I’m so sorry to hear about your Dad’s cancer. I’ve been a bit out of the loop whilst away. Thinking of you and hope it gets a good outcome.

Secondly, how lovely is your new blog design?!

And thirdly, oh my… you live in such a gorgeous area. I remember the little walk we went on when I came to visit FOUR years ago. How crazy is it that it was so long ago already?

    Hope you are well lovely.x.x.x

My friend just recently directed me to this lovely space on the internet and I’ve been reading and looking at your lovely pictures feeling very inspired. I’ve been living abroad for most my 20’s and now I’m 30 my husband and I will be returning to Manchester this summer and hopefully buying a house and starting afresh. I was already interested in starting a lifestyle/Manchester blog but now I think I’m pretty certain as long as I can get the hubby to learn how to make website because I am technologically challenged. I’m sorry about your dad, it really struck a chord with me as my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer this year and it’s been a rollercoaster of good news, bad news and now we’re at this plateau where it depends how this treatment works. Thankfully I will be finally with her next month but it’s very scary and makes you realise all we can ever do is take one day at a time. Anyways thanks for your lovely site and I wish you and your dad best wishes.

Thanks so much for the lovely comment Emma and good luck with the move to Manchester, it’s a brilliant city! Sorry to hear about your mum too, being closer will help both of you, sending positive thoughts your way. Let me know when you’ve set up your blog, it’s the best thing I ever did! X
