Hebden Bridge: Shops (A Quick Guide)

Well hello there! Before diving into the nitty-gritty that is Hebden Bridge, I decided to take my camera for a walk in the sun and make a note of the places I’d like to feature on the blog. It’s not a Hebden Bridge guide as such, just my favourite places to visit and potter in, after living here for over 6 years.

To get you started, I’m looking at the shops of Hebden Bridge (a quick guide) and when I have more time, I’ll feature them individually if you fancy?

Now then, Hebden Bridge has a variety of independent shops to potter in and enjoy. From galleries and gift shops to clothing boutiques and produce stores. There are a couple of high street shops thrown in for good measure including Boots, Fat Face and Rohan but they all tend to sit nicely together with the independents. Here are some of my favourites…

On Bridge Gate, leading up to St Georges Square, you’ll find Holts Greengrocers, the perfect spot to pick up a seasonal bunch of blooms, Pennine Wine and Cheese (great cheese, wine and continental produce), Something Sweet (the best sweet shop!), and a variety of clothing, charity and gift shops too.

On St Georges Square, you can’t miss the Hebden Bridge Mill; home to Innovation gift shop and cafe, and a number of small businesses that grace the upper floors, including Lucy and the Caterpillar Vintage Clothing. You’ll find pop-up shops in here too, so it’s always a great place to visit for surprises and bargains!

Albert Street FloristsVintage Shop

On Albert Street, my favourite shops include Jules China and Tableware (packed to the ceiling with beautiful china), a newly opened Vintage shop, Hebden Bridge Antique Centre, The Quilt Cabin and Polkadot Lane, specialising in Polish pottery.

On and near Crown Street you’ll find Joyce’s ClosetFleur De Lys (another great place to find gorgeous and affordable flowers), and Amelia Boutique (clothing and accessories).

Then to Market Street (my personal favourite for shopping!). There is Spirals, The Old Treehouse, Snug, Hat Therapy, Radiance, Hotcakes, The Bookcase, Valley Organics, Muse Music and Love Cafe, The Yorkshire Soap Company, Heart Gallery, Ribbon Circus, 2 Tone Comics,Element JewelleryRuby Shoesday and Dynamite. I’ll share more about these gems soon.

The Book Case

On the Rochdale Canal (turn right instead of going to the park), you’ll find Hebble End Mill with a variety of workshop studios including Tan My Hide and the bike shop and coffee lounge, The Bicycle Den; always a great spot to potter in and chat with genuinely lovely people.

The Bakehouse

Oh, and don’t worry if you need a good strong cup of coffee after all that shopping, there’s no shortage of cafes to enjoy. But that’s another blog post!

My next Hebden Bridge post will concentrate on craft; craft supply shops, workshops and craft events and fairs. Keep your eyes peeled.
