Lately: Settling
Oh September. You were probably the most life changing, overwhelming and surreal month I’ve ever known, so I’m looking forward to quiet moments in the months ahead to get my head around things!
So, what’s been happening lately? Finding great film posters at the Picture House’s open day. I love this Frances Ha one and can’t wait to frame it. Have you seen the film?
Having an open fire or stove has always been a dream of ours so we had the chimney sweep pop round to make sure all was tippety-top. We’ve had a couple of awesome fires but there might be a problem with the chimney below in the cellar – the joys of being a homeowner! In the meantime, these lilies are taking pride of place in the fireplace till they fix it.
Setting the basics up in the house took longer than I thought but it’s nice to pull things out of boxes to discover your favourite homewares.
Which include these Sea Salt lights c/o Cable and Cotton. The blue, black and cream work really well in the lounge complimenting the art on the walls and our teal telephone. I like them just dropping down the wall too, and at just £22.95 for a set of 20, they make an awesome gift. Anyone thinking of Christmas yet?
I’m beginning to get organised in my freelance work and with blogging but I’ve been pretty poorly for the last few weeks and a little run down with other worries too. Waking up in our lovely house puts it all into perspective and I’m reminding myself to take one day at a time…always smell the roses!
Can a person love a shelf? Well I do. I’ll get a better picture of it but needless to say it is full of all my favourite things; tea, coffee, dutch waffles, pasta, jam and candy striped straws.
The only room that needs a little attention, but is my favourite, is the attic bedroom. We’re painting it this weekend and have a new bed coming soon! At some stage we’re getting a carpenter in to sort out storage for under the eaves but that might be a while yet. I’d like a bookcase that opens into another room but I think that’s asking too much…
A house warming gift to ourselves from artist and good friend, Julia Ogden. I love her seascapes! I especially love this one as it reminds me of the characters from A Very Long Engagement, Mathilde and Manech.
Finally finding the time to look at details and the simple things. I love our multi-colour rug.
And our blue back door and a cake stand from my sister, that I’m using as a fruit stand. Think healthy Lisa!
Appreciating light shining through my favourite window in the house. I can’t believe we have a landing!
Finding my old casio watch whilst rummaging through boxes. And also having charity shop luck with this plaid shirt, and a few other bits. I’ll leave that for another post though.
Our bed frame broke the other night so we’ve been sleeping on the mattress directly on the floor the past couple of days, classy people we are! To be honest, I’ve not noticed any difference and would happily sleep all day long on it if I could. Ah sleep.
What have you been up to lately?

Aww! I love your home! Thank you for letting us in for a nose around 🙂 I love love love your telephone and those lights are gorgeous! We have recently moved house too and as you mentioned, it’s crazy how much you dig out of boxes you forgot about! Good luck with the painting and I too would love a secret bookcase door! How fabulous!

I hope you enjoy digging through those boxes too! It’s nice doing it at a slower pace now! : )

Having a landing must be pretty great – we have one in our house and we’ve put the cake stand on display there!
