Hebden Bridge

At Home: Ultimate Garden Party

uk lifestyle blog

We’ve been so happy ever since the summer has landed as we’ve been able to utilise our outdoor space more, which has made our small home feel that little bit larger. It’s only a patio area but in Hebden Bridge you’re lucky to even have that.

As last weekend was mainly about resting and taking it easy, it was lovely to sit outside in the sun and do nothing much. Of course my version of doing nothing includes writing multiple notes and emptying my brain. With summer in mind (I’m hopeful of a great one this year!), and with a little help from Pinterest, I made a few notes of suitable garden get together’s we could hold this year.

My ideal garden party would probably include a large lawn (Pride and Prejudice style), swimming pool and bi-folding doors, which I’ve only ever experienced with holiday accommodation. They add so much open space to a home, helping to bring in natural light and create an open gateway to your garden or patio; making them ideal for summer entertaining. But of course, it’s the small details and fiishing touches that bring a garden party together.

You can fill your outdoor space with bunting and garlands galore to make a colourful and celebratory impression but here’s a few more specific ideas for the ultimate decorative garden party:

  1. Place tealights in old jam jars. Use citronella scented candles to keep flies at bay.
  2. Make mini bunting and tie between two skewer sticks, then stick in a few plant pots around your garden/patio.
  3. Make a door posy/bouquet to welcome your guests.
  4. Have a blanket box to keep your guests warm later in the evening.
  5. Buy sparklers for everyone for a humble firework display! Great to give away as mini gifts afterwards too.
  6. Find old lengths of ribbon, bright fabric or paper tissue you no longer want and cut into strips. Tie to the back of chairs or hang from trees.
  7. Instead of hosting a full meal, just choose one course (hello pudding night!). Or ask everyone to bring a dish.
  8. Invite people!

Are you having a garden party this year?

We are having a little party this year for our 10 year wedding anniversary… where the hell did that go?! We are looking at a mini festival theme and these have given me a few further ideas so thanks muchly for sharing them.

We’ve gone a bit all out and a hired a yurt for the garden and a man with a pizza oven trailer. Those are the only big things and everything else will be made by us. So excited and yet so nervous. I’m not really a hoster of parties… always worry no one will show up!

    Great blog… glad I found you x
