A Fine Day Out: Wood Hall Hotel & Spa

Yesterday I was treated, along with my best friend, to a spa afternoon at Wood Hall Hotel and Spa, Wetherby. We had such a lovely afternoon, I came straight home and opened up my laptop.

You know the scene in Pride and Prejudice (1995 TV series) where Elizabeth Bennet sees Pemberley for the first time? Well, minus the lake and a certain Mr Darcy (darn it), I too had a very similar feeling on seeing Wood Hall.  A trip to the hotel and spa, whether you stay for one drink, night or weekend, is worth it for that view alone. I’m a sucker for pretty landscapes and long driveways.

As part of our day, we had our nails shaped and polished by the lovely Emma. Emma made our afternoon flow with ease as she showed us the spa facilities available at the hotel: swimming pool (Katy did handstands!), steam room, spa pool and air-conditioned gym. Whilst Katy had her nails done I took a walk around the grounds and fell in love with the Italian gardens; a peaceful and tranquil spot to view the surroundings of the hotel and the remaining flowers of the Summer.

After our nails were made pretty, we were whisked away across to the hotel for afternoon tea in The Drawing Room; a lovely and decadent space, which I can imagine coming back to near Christmas (I may have sniffed the leather arm-chair I sat in once or twice…mmm old leather). The finger sandwiches, warm baked scones and the pretty collection of cakes were enough to see us through the rest of the afternoon and were delicious, even if we couldn’t eat them all.

After our afternoon tea, we had a slight eureka moment whilst walking into the spa facilities realising we had them all to ourselves – if only for a minute I could pretend Wood Hall Spa was all mine whilst floating in the heated pool.

There is no doubt that Wood Hall is a stunning place, and ideal for wedding and events. For us, however, it was a simply a peaceful afternoon where we could escape, if only for a few hours and enjoy all Wood Hall’s benefits. We’ll be back again for sure and left contented wth pool-shrivelled finger tips, a belly full of cucumber sandwiches and a happy camera. However, next time, I do expect Mr Darcy upon arrival…just the one suggestion.
