Ten True Things

Inspired by The Owl and the Accordion’s recent and brilliant blog post, Ten True Things, I’m sharing a little of my life today, including all the things that perhaps don’t look peachy on paper but nevertheless make me who I am.

1. I am annoyingly awkward. I stumble over sentences, ridiculously clumsy and inarticulate. Endearing? Nup, it’s annoying. I make up strange words, then wonder why strangers look at me oddly when they don’t have a clue what I’m on about. Luckily as the years roll by, I don’t care as much what people think. The people who I do care about get my awkward ways. Er, hopefully.

2. I’m 33, I have no children, no mortgage, no car and I’m not married. But, if you’re a regular reader of my blog you’ll know how happy I am. I have a roof over my head which I share with my best friend. He makes me laugh, supports me unconditionally and looks a little like Jon Snow from Game of Thrones – my 15 yr old self would have been beside herself, therefore I am. The other stuff? Hopefully a car this year to go on mini adventures. The rest? That’s for another day.

3. I am a homebody. The actual truth? I like my own company. Oh dear, is that bad? When I think about it, all the things that make me happy involve staying indoors – cooking, blogging, crafting, watching films etc. This sometimes means I’m a bit rubbish at socialising, which leads me on to…

4. I rarely ring people. In fact, I DETEST the telephone (awkward tendencies). I sometimes ignore the ringing landline when I’m not in the ‘zone’ to speak to people. Dear people, I do love you really, and I will get back to you. The mobile phone? Always on silent.

5. We will not be good friends if you talk throughout a film. I get a bit ‘tetchy’ when people chat or comment when a film is on. I have warned you.

6. Opening an online craft shop and selling my wares was always on the cards. I even had a little try back in 2011 but it just wasn’t for me. Ihave realised that although I love to sew, I’m no designer-maker, and instead it will now be something to enjoy for those escapism days. I’ll still blog about what I get up to though.
7. I was diagnosed with Epilepsy when I was a teenager (now 10 years seizure free!). It worries me sometimes when I think of my nephew and nieces though. Stupid genes.

9. I am a messy pup. How could I ever have a child? How am I a grown up? I never clean the oven, our washing basket is always full (because I don’t keep on top of it), and I haven’t cleaned the windows for months. I want to be better. I also want someone else to do it.

10. I don’t shop locally enough. Like most people, I have a budget and unfortunately shopping frequently at the local butcher and greengrocer doesn’t fit in with said budget – believe me I’ve tried. I do however shop for bits and bobs when I can and living in Hebden Bridge (all independent shops) means the milk and bread I buy helps a little. Little steps, my friends, little steps.

Erm, I’ll get back to you on my good qualities…

We are kindred spirits! Number 3&4 are straight from my brain! We’d be great friends who never feel the need to call and only socialise at one another’s homes, ‘K? Oh, and Cinema Paradiso? Love that film so much I gave birth to the soundtrack… TMI? Possibly.

cripes it is like reading about a younger version of me!!
40, no kids, renting, never bothered with the whole massive wedding thing despite being together forever..
refuse to have a landline as i hate speaking on the phone *that* much ..
best friend in my teens has scar on face where i hurtled a video case at her for chatting through girls just want to have fun…
i love being on my own all day, we live remotely and i spend my day chatting to animals – utterly perfect…
i am and always have been untidy – there is no way i can be called a housewife, i hate seeing piles of mess but seem unable to keep them under control…
when i am in actual social situations and i hear what is coming out of my mouth it makes me cringe, i trip over words and probably ramble on too much ..
heck i sound a bit odd!

Wow, I’ve started a trend! Thanks for the shoutout lovely!
I love your ten truths – I can wholeheartedly agree with number 10 as well. It’s really hard to shop locally where we live as well – we’re not as well equipped as a big city like London, but we’re not properly rural enough to have lots of farm shops. Gah! I can feel another post coming on, haha.
I also agree with being happy in your own company – I nodded my way through that whole point. I’m happiest at home, without a doubt.
Lovely to get to know you a little bit better! xx
