Festive 5: Kat got the Cream

On the blog this week I’ve lined up some fantastic bloggers and friends to take part in my Festive 5 series. They’ll be asked five questions all about the season – mainly because I’m nosey like that and Christmas makes me happy! Today we have the delightful Kathryn from Kat got the Cream. Say hello!

1. Where will you spend Christmas this year?
I’ll be spending it at home with my lovely mister and our brood of three. Charlie and Florence are very excited and it will be baby Bea’s first Christmas so we’re hoping to have a fairly quiet but special one. We live just around the corner from my sister so at some point we will prise ourselves off the sofa and walk around to her house to catch up with more family (and do more scoffing).

In the style of Nigel Slater, most of my memories are food related. I remember one Christmas Eve, my brother and I had been left watching Flash Gordon on the telly with an unguarded tin of Quality Street. I stuffed myself silly on Strawberry Cremes (my fave at the time) and bounced on the sofa with excitement and sugar! My mum’s Christmas dinners were pretty legendary too. She always let me help by making the prawn cocktail starter (how very retro?).

I adore The Snowman (I was 7 when it first came out), so that’s a must. I also feel slightly cheated if I haven’t had a bit of Dick van Dyke at some point too, whether it’s Mary Poppins or Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. I only discovered Elf last year, but love it now. Of course, a new feature-length Marple would also be very welcome!

I do remember getting some ever-so-cool roller boots one year. They were yellow and blue with big yellow wheels and I thought they were the bee’s knees. They were lethal though and I was always falling over and hurting myself but I still LOVED them!
As a very sentimental aside, I would also add that the arrival of my first daughter Flo, just a few days before Christmas was a rather lovely gift too and made Christmas that year extra special.

I can’t wait to sing some carols. Nothing gets me in the Christmas mood more than singing my heart out even though my voice is awful. I can’t wait to see the kids in their nativity plays, playing their respective roles of donkey and snowflake. I love the chaos of Christmas morning too: present opening in our ‘jamas with cups of tea and pannetone and squeals of excitement. I never want it to end!
